PRIDE training for prospective foster families

PRIDE training prepares candidates to care for a child who, for various reasons, cannot grow up in their biological family.

During the training, prospective foster parents learn about the needs of children who have experienced loss, rejection, violence or neglect. They also discuss how to build a relationship based on safety, trust and respect.

The programme includes, among other things:

  • the role and responsibilities of a foster family;
  • the child’s developmental and emotional needs;
  • the impact of trauma, loss and family experiences on a child’s behaviour;
  • building attachment and supporting the child in everyday life;
  • cooperation with the child’s biological family;
  • cooperation with institutions and specialists;
  • dealing with difficult emotions and parenting situations;
  • preparing the family for changes, separations and the child’s return to their biological family.

PRIDE is also an opportunity to consider your own capabilities, motivation and readiness to take a child into your care. Candidates can ask questions, discuss their concerns and prepare more fully for everyday foster-family life.

The aim of the training is to prepare the family to provide the child with a stable, safe and respectful home, and to cooperate with the people and institutions involved in the child’s situation.
